I was just over at Amazon reading the comments about this film. There were only 3 (one from the official reviewer and two from consumers). I would agree with them. Though I enjoyed it, as I do all HST media, it seemed a little starstruck to me.
The director (who I met at the initial screening with the Thompson family) seemed so dazzled by the stars that less of the Hunter story got in than I would have enjoyed. Of course, it was probably made for an audience of people less HST obsessed than myself.
Oh the whole, I enjoy Ewing's 'Breakfast with Hunter' more, because it is just two hours of following Hunter. There isn't much third person pontificating going on. You get to judge for yourself what a few years with this man was like.
Of course, being the collector I am... I have all the films including the bootleg DVD of cobbled together HST appearances. If someone asked me who Hunter was, I still think I would throw on the Depp film of Fear and Loathing. To me, that movie is the absolute pinnacle of HST entertainment, writing, charactures, everything.
Also, it's possible Depp made a better HST than HST himself. That sounds strange, doesn't it? Oh well, cheers!
Hey ol' buddy! My usual apologies for being so behind on stuff.
No, it doesn't sound strange at all that Depp would make a better HST than HST. I think Depp has a keen eye that he brings to all his performances - it's like he can channel the intangible qualities of others (real or imagined). I enjoy his films immensely.
